Located near the Via Francigena, the fountain is located in the external gardens of the Convent at the entrance to the Casa del Pellegrino. Enlargement of a small clay model made in 1994, it is a further variant of the small clay model of 1987. It was made entirely by hand in a laboratory near Florence and was later transported to Carrara and used as a model for the construction of the large fountain commissioned by the pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline of Brussels.

This fountain, a concrete model, marks the intermediate moment that leads from small to large dimensions in sculpture. It deals with the theme of the static and aesthetic-constructive checks necessary in view of the realization of a monumental work.
Working over 1000 kg of clay, the cement model was born within 4 months; once completed, it was trampled on fresh earth, and by assembling a plaster and silicone shell of over 15 pieces, it was subsequently poured and erected using special cements. During the process, the original was inevitably lost, so much so that this work took on the value of a new original in all respects, an art object in and of itself without copies behind it.

The day in which three large blocks of Travertine necessary for the execution of the large GlaxoSmithKline fountain entered a specialized sculpture laboratory in Carrara, this cement work also entered; 50% smaller in size and 8 times smaller in volume than the commissioned work, indispensable for the process, it would have been copied making it possible to reproduce it on a large scale with over 90% fidelity.
The „model“ fountain currently located in San Gimignano is an object that has already lived in several gardens for over 25 years. It has been seen by many people, they have played and dozens of children have bathed in it.

Transported in 2017 from the artist’s garden studio opposite the Convent and abandoned since that year, it acquired a new function in the garden of the Casa del Pellegrino on the Via Francigena: water that flows over the course of days and unites times and people,wayfarers, who stop and sit on a bench before resuming their journey.

Der Brunnen befindet sich in der Nähe der Via Francigena in den Außenanlagen des Klosters am Eingang zur Casa del Pellegrino.Es handelt sich um eine vergrößerte Version eines kleinen Tonmodells aus dem Jahr 1994, eine weitere Variante des kleinen Tonmodells von 1987. Es wurde vollständig von Hand in einer Werkstatt in der Nähe von Florenz hergestellt und später nach Carrara transportiert und als Modell für den großen Brunnen verwendet, den das Pharmaunternehmen GlaxoSmithKline in Brüssel in Auftrag gegeben hatte.

Dieser Brunnen, ein Betonmodell, markiert den Zwischenschritt in der Bildhauerei, der vom kleinen zum großen Format führt. Er beschäftigt sich mit dem Thema der statischen und ästhetisch-konstruktiven Überprüfungen, die im Hinblick auf die Realisierung eines monumentalen Werks notwendig sind.
Das Zementmodell wurde in viermonatiger Arbeit aus mehr als 1.000 kg Ton geformt, nach seiner Fertigstellung in frische Erde gegossen und durch den Zusammenbau einer Gips- und Silikonhülle aus mehr als 15 Teilen mit Spezialzementen gegossen und aufgestellt. Dabei ging das Original unweigerlich verloren, so dass dieses Werk in jeder Hinsicht den Wert eines neuen Originals hat, eines Kunstobjekts an sich, das keine Kopie hinter sich hat.

An dem Tag, an dem drei große Travertinblöcke, die für die Ausführung des großen GlaxoSmithKline-Brunnens benötigt wurden, in einer spezialisierten Bildhauerwerkstatt in Carrara eintrafen, wurde auch dieses Betonwerk, das 50 % kleiner und achtmal kleiner ist als das in Auftrag gegebene Werk, für den Prozess unentbehrlich und sollte kopiert werden, so dass es in großem Maßstab mit einer Genauigkeit von über 90 % reproduziert werden konnte.
Der „Modell“-Brunnen, der sich derzeit in San Gimignano befindet, ist ein Objekt, das bereits seit über 25 Jahren in verschiedenen Gärten steht. Er wurde von vielen Menschen gesehen, bespielt und Dutzende von Kindern haben darin gebadet.Er wurde 2017 aus dem Ateliergarten des Künstlers gegenüber des Klosters transportiert und ist seit diesem Jahr stillgelegt, um im Garten des Casa del Pellegrino (Pilgerhaus) an der Via Francigena eine neue Funktion zu übernehmen: Wasser, das im Fluss der Tage sprudelt und die Zeit und die Menschen, die Wanderer, die innehalten und sich auf eine Bank setzen, bevor sie ihre Reise fortsetzen, miteinander verbindet.

Collocata nei pressi della Via Francigena, la fontana si trova nei giardini esterni del Convento all’ingresso della Casa del Pellegrino. Ingrandimento di un piccolo modello in creta realizzato nel 1994, è un’ulteriore variante della piccola creta del 1987. È stata eseguito interamente a mano in un laboratorio nei pressi di Firenze ed in seguito è stata trasportata a Carrara e usata come modello per la realizzazione della grande fontana commissionata dalla società farmaceutica GlaxoSmithKline di Bruxelles.

Questa fontana/modello in cemento, segna il momento intermedio che in scultura conduce dalle piccole alle grandi dimensioni. Esso affronta il tema delle verifiche statiche ed estetico-costruttive necessarie in vista della realizzazione di un’opera monumentale. Lavorando oltre 1000 Kg di creta, il modello cementizio è nato nell’arco di 4 mesi; una volta ultimato è stato calcato a terra fresca, e assemblando un guscio in gesso e silicone di oltre 15 pezzi, è stata successivamente colato ed eretto facendo uso di cementi speciali. Nel corso del processo l’originale è andato inevitabilmente perduto, tanto che questa opera ha assunto a tutti gli effetti valore di nuovo originale, un oggetto d’arte in sé e per sé senza copie alle spalle.

Il giorno in cui a Carrara, in un laboratorio specializzato di scultura entravano tre grandi blocchi di Travertino necessari all’esecuzione della grande fontana GlaxoSmithKline, vi entrava anche questa opera cementizia; di dimensioni ridotte al 50% e di un volume 8 volte inferiore all’opera in commissione, indispensabile al processo sarebbe stata copiata rendendo possibile la riproduzione in grande con una fedeltà spinta oltre il 90%.
La fontana/modello collocata attualmente a San Gimignano è un oggetto che ha già vissuto in più giardini per oltre 25 anni. È stata vista da molte persone, vi hanno giocato e vi si sono bagnati decine di bambini.

Trasportata nel 2017 dallo studio-giardino dell’artista dirimpettaio al Convento e da quell’anno dismesso, ha acquistato nel giardino della Casa del Pellegrino sulla via Francigena una nuova funzione: acqua che sgorga nel correre dei giorni e unisce i tempi e le persone, viandanti, che si soffermano e siedono su una panca prima di riprendere il cammino.
